The Right Door was formed in 2003 to help those in crisis with alcohol and drugs find support through appropriate treatment programs, agencies and 12-step volunteer support groups. The service is free, totally confidential and available 24/7 with the help of local clean and sober volunteers. The following are our most important functions:

  • Punctual outreach case management by staff and experienced clean and sober volunteers.
  • Prompt response to requests for support from agencies and the community 24 hours daily.
  • On-call schedule of volunteers.
  • When appropriate, provide transportation to and from agencies or other locations.
  • Meet with individuals and/or their families when in crisis and prior to discharge from agencies.
  • Maintain familiarity with local health and social providers -- assist individuals to efficiently connect with these agencies.

The Right Door receives referrals and requests for service from the Aspen Police Department, Pitkin County Sheriff Department, Aspen Valley Hospital, Snowmass PD, Basalt PD and the Pitkin County Court. TRD works closely with these agencies for the benefit of the client only. These law enforcement agencies support individuals who work with TRD staff and also look after TRD staffs safety.
